Port Dougals/Daintree Area

Newell Beach is 75 kms - just over an hour’s drive from Cairns International Airport and only a 20 minute drive from Port Douglas with its boutique shops and galleries and world class restaurants.

From Port Douglas a variety of snorkelling and or diving trips depart daily to the Great Barrier Reef.  The Great Barrier Reef is one of the seven natural wonders of the world.  It is a protected national marine park and is listed as a World Heritage area.  The Great Barrier Reef comprises nearly three thousand individual reefs and islands from just north of Bundaberg to the tip of Cape York Peninsula.  Fish, coral and other marine life of the reef presents in an infinite variety of colour, size and shape, welcoming the visitor to another spectacular world.

The regional sugar cane town of Mossman is just a five minute drive away, together with stunning Mossman Gorge with its intact rainforest setting and guided walks by the local indigenous Yalanji people.  Swim in the refreshing river, walk through intact rainforest and hear the ancient spirits. Here you can purchase locally produced, authentic Yalanji artworks and souvenirs and support local indigenous artists.

The Daintree Ferry – gateway to Cape Tribulation and the larger section of the Daintree National Park with its walking tracks and crocodile spotting tours – is approx. a 20 minute drive.

Cape Tribulation is approximately an hour’s drive – drive through the green canopy, taste homemade ice-cream made from local tropical fruits, and visit the beautiful beach where the rainforest meets the sea.

The quaint village of Daintree is approx. a half hour’s drive – visit the woodwork museum where you can purchase unique hand carved works of art made from Australian timber.

Newell Beach

Newell Beach is a secluded, pristine and private 3.5 long, white sand tropical style beach fringed with palm trees. Here you can see sea eagles hunting and catching fish and the resident Manta Ray, for which our B&B is named, cruising up and down the beach. If you are lucky you can swim alongside him.

Other birds also seen regularly on the beach are beach curlews, a variety of herons and raptors, seagulls and at times pelicans. Sunrises are spectacular and there are sweeping views across the sparkling Pacific Ocean to Port Douglas and some of the outlaying islands - Snapper Island and the Low Isles.

If relaxing is what you are seeking, then Newell Beach is for you, lazing near the water on the beach, fishing in the sea or the two rivers flanking the beach, or just relaxing in the beautiful pool of the B& B or chilling out on the day bed
